It is time for the first team challenge of season nine of MasterChef Junior. And what better way to celebrate the idea of teamwork than with the Harlem Globetrotters?

That’s right, our young MasterChefs have to work together to feed members of the iconic Harlem Globetrotters. Not only do the teams have to feed nine people, but one of the Globetrotters has a dietary restriction because she is a vegan. This means that not only do they need to cook up dishes with a protein and two sides, but they also have to do at least one vegan dish with sides.

With ten chefs in the competition, the teams were divided in two with five chefs per team. Each team has a captain, with the judges choosing two people they wanted to see more from being chosen for that role. On the blue team, Miles was chosen to be the captain, while the red team has Lydia in that role. And right away, things are shaky on the red team as Lydia seems to struggle to take charge and delegate.

However, both teams had issues in this challenge. Not only were there issues with communication on the teams, but there were also problems with the cook on different dishes for both teams. The blue team struggled with their chicken and their eggplant. While over on the red team, they were struggling with their potatoes and steaks. At one point, Bryson ends up burning himself because no one on his team is listening to him and he keeps asking for help.

It was a fight to the end for both teams to not only finish their dishes, but to also get them plated. And both team captains served their plates to the table of both Globetrotters and judges. But, they did not get to stick around to see how their dishes did, or if the items were cooked the way we wanted to see them.

Even with all the struggles, both teams were able to cook their proteins perfectly. There were some issues on both dishes, but it was primarily with the sides. For the vegan dish, it was the red team that took the win there. But what about the rest of the diners? Who ended up winning?

In the end, the winning team was the blue team! The chicken was the hero for the Harlem Globetrotters.

Sadly, this meant that the red team lost and someone has to go home. But in the end, it wasn’t just one person who had to go home. In fact, they decided two people needed to go home. So who went home? The two MasterChef Junior chefs sent home were Lydia and Kristell.
