Unless you live under a rock, it is hard not to have heard about the dominant takeover by Steph Curry in the gold medal game against France. During the game, Curry had 24 points, all coming from three-pointers -- his specialty.
But more importantly, his dazzling effort clinched the gold for the US and crushed the hopes and dreams of the host nation, causing McDonald's France to consider removing one of its items.
In an Instagram post from the company, they posted that they are considering removing their curry sauce for at least four years minimum following Steph Curry's incredible run which solidified a fifth gold medal in a row for the men's basketball team.
Are they going to remove the sauce? Probably not. But it shows how serious countries take the Olympics and how heartbreaking it is to lose an event that occurs every four years. And that was evident, especially when you saw the tears on many French players, including future NBA superstar Victor Wembanyama.
And to make matters worse for France, this is their second consecutive loss in the gold medal game. In the 2021 Olympics, France fell 87-82 during the final matchup in Tokyo. Not to mention, Joel Embiid elected to play for the US instead of suiting up for France.
If that's not enough pain on the basketball side for the country, they also saw a loss on the women's side on Sunday. The French fell to the Team USA women after Gabby William's potential game-tying shot was a two-pointer instead of a three after her foot was on the line.
However, there were some positives for France as they took home 64 medals, with 16 of those being golds. But they will remember how close they were in this Olympics on their home turf.
For now, it is time to look ahead to Los Angeles in 2028.
