McDonald's goes anime with Jujutsu Kaisen Special Grade Garlic Sauce
By Trey Weston
From hit shows like Demon Slayer, Attack on Titan, and others, anime has expanded in popularity far beyond its origin in Japan. Now, McDonald's is celebrating the medium with a special sauce available on July 9 that teams the iconic fast food spot with the popular anime series Jujutsu Kaisen.
As far as the sauce goes -- it is a Special Grade Garlic Sauce inspired by the popular Black Garlic Sauce from Japan. It is described as garlic and soy sauce balanced with a slight tangy sweetness, which sounds like a delicious enhancer to fresh McNuggets.
The specific show behind the release is Jujutsu Kaisen, which was named Anime of the Year by the Crunchyroll Anime Awards in 2021. Per PR provided by McDonald's to Guilty Eats, here is a list of the characters from the show that will be on the sauce packaging:
- Yuji Itadori
- Megumi Fushiguro
- Nobara Kugisaki
- Satoru Gojo
- Kento Nanami
- Suguru Geto
- Mahito
- Sukuna
If you watch anime, then that list will likely ring a bell. If you don't, you still can appreciate the delicious-sounding sauce that comes with the release. And, if you seek to unlock your full powers, you must find all eight lids with the characters listed above.
Now, there is one thing to note with the limited edition sauce. You have to go through the McDonald's app exclusively to claim the special sauce. Also, with each purchase, you get a 30-day free trial to Crunchyroll. That means you can begin your anime journey and see why Jujutsu Kaisen is highly regarded.
Overall, it will be interesting to see how the sauce will pan out. If it's anything like the Szechuan one, it has the potential to be a good dipping option.
In a month that can sometimes feel like the dog days of summer, an opportunity has emerged. It is time to tune into some Jujutsu Kaisen while trying some Special Grade Garlic Sauce.
