You won’t need deep pockets for this deep dish deal.

Today is National Deep Dish Pizza Day, not to be confused with National Pizza Day, which is either February 9 or November 12, depending on who you ask. And to celebrate, UNOs nationwide are offering a buy one, get one free pizza to go deal. Or if you prefer, an UNO BOGO To-Go.

Deep Dish, also known as Chicago Style Pizza, is perhaps one of the most controversial pizzas known to man. Unlike your regular flat crust a la most pizzas, a Deep Dish is more sauce, cheese and toppings than crust. Pizza might be called a pie, but Deep Dish really is: a hot, steaming, goopy pie of deliciousness.

While Pizzeria Uno, now called UNO Pizzeria and Grill, claims to have invented the Deep Dish Pizza over 80 years ago, in 1943, historians – and chefs – dispute that account. In fact, it may have been around since at least 1926, according to the Chicago Tribune.

But regardless of who invented it and when, UNO is owning it, and that’s to your benefit. According to the chain’s website, they launched a National Deep Dish Pizza Day deal on Wednesday, April 3, which ends today: Buy One, Get One Pizza To Go. The second one is free, by the way.

There are caveats of course. It’s for takeout only, you can only get one, and it can’t be combined with any other order. In addition, the deal is only available in certain UNO locations, though it's in 13 states and D.C. so you're probably covered.

However, take it from me, a guy who has been to Chicago plenty of times and therefore had deep dish forced on me more times than that: you really only need one Deep Dish pizza. The second one is a doorstop.

I’m from New York, so I can say that.
