Oh, I wish I were an Oscar Mayer Bacon Cheddar Popcorn

Oscar Mayer is a brand probably best known for their wieners. Whether they’re regular style, or stuffed with cheese, Oscar Mayer and hot dogs are synonymous. But hot d’s are far from the only thing Oscar Mayer makes, including cold cuts, breakfast scrambles, and perhaps most notably, bacon. And now they’re expanding once more, with popcorn.

Yep, that’s right – forget about wishing you were an Oscar Mayer wiener, now you’re going to wish you were a bag of popcorn. And not just any popcorn: Oscar Mayer Bacon Cheddar Popcorn, specifically.

The new snack, as you can probably guess, includes the flavor of Oscar Mayer bacon, along with cheddar cheese, all on crunchy popcorn. And in case you’re scratching your head on the last one, this is a partnership with a brand that knows a thing or two about popping corn: The Popcorn Factory, which is selling 3-packs of 5-ounce bags right now. In addition to that location, some retailers nationwide are selling individual 5-ounce bags for $4.49, for your requisite “while supplies last.”

So why is Oscar Mayer, a brand usually associated with the refrigerated section of the supermarket, expanding into the snack aisle? Per PR provided to Guilty Eats, Oscar Mayer references a recent article from Meat & Poultry noting that 48% of snackers are “keen on trying new bacon treats.” Hence bringing the flavor of their 12-hour smoked Thick-Cut Bacon in popcorn form.

Hey, I’ll consider myself part of that 48%. Along with buffalo sauce, when I see bacon flavor on a package it’s essentially a siren call that demands I pick it up and try it at home. So maybe I won’t be wishing I was a bag of popcorn, but I definitely wish I could try one of these scrumptious-sounding snacks ASAP.
