Oscar Mayer is straight cheesin’ with their new Stuffed Dogs line
What’s better than an Oscar Mayer weiner? How about one stuffed with cheese? If that’s the sort of thing you’re into, then you’re going to love the new Oscar Mayer Stuffed Dogs line which does just that… Take your classic dog and infuse it with gooey, delicious cheese.
“Our ambition is to spark smiles and be the indisputable leader in taste, which is why we reimagined the iconic Oscar Mayer wiener to meet the evolving preferences of our consumers,” said Molly White, Vice President of Marketing for Oscar Mayer, via a press release provided to Guilty Eats. “Whether seeking a spicy twist or pop of creamy cheese, we strive to feed fans’ appetite for category offerings that are currently only available from quick service restaurants.”
The three flavors available are Cheese, Jalapeño Cheddar, and Chili Cheese. You can probably figure out exactly what’s going on flavor-wise with each of them, but Oscar Mayer notes that the Stuffed Dogs are inspired by two things. First, that these are some of “fans’ favorite restaurant offerings,” specifically that according to the brand, “millions of consumers requested extra spice for their food last year alone, inspiring key ingredients for the new recipes including real jalapeño peppers and chilies – quite literally putting the hot in hot dogs.”
The other reason Oscar Mayer is expanding into Stuffed Dogs? Cold, hard cash. According to the company, the “Cheese Dog category currently outpaces the Hot Dog category in dollar growth.” So basically they saw that people were buying more stuffed hot dogs and less regular hot dogs, and did the smart thing and made some stuffed hot dogs themselves. That said, they also note that they are the first company to bring Jalapeño Cheddar and Chili Cheese flavors to retail, which seems to be accurate based on a cursory internet search. You win this round, Oscar Mayer press release!
The new Stuffed Dogs are rolling out now into stores nationwide in eight-packs for $4.99. And I just want to mention for the record they seem to really be underplaying the fact that they have the correct amount of hot dogs in the pack, instead of the usual 10 to eight buns ratio that drives everyone insane.
