Peanut Butter Tequila: My surprising experience with Chica~Chida's unique spirit
Get ready to elevate your tailgating game with a drink that’s sure to turn heads! Back in March, Piermont Brands introduced Chica~Chida, its bold and unique Peanut Butter flavored agave spirit. Don’t let a peanut allergy stop you—this spirit is crafted with allergen-free peanut butter extract so everyone can enjoy it. With a smooth 32% ABV, it's the perfect way to kick back and have a great time. I had the chance to sample this intriguing beverage, and here’s what I think!
Unpacking the flavor
As much as I love peanut butter, I was a bit skeptical about trying peanut butter-flavored alcohol. I wasn’t sure how those flavors would mix. But after my first sip, I was surprised by the complexity—I couldn’t quite put my finger on what I was tasting. Instead of the expected peanut butter flavor, it reminded me more of a sugary cereal with a splash of almond milk. While it didn’t hit the peanut butter note as strongly as I anticipated, I still found it surprisingly enjoyable. By the time I reached my fourth shot, I was definitely feeling the good vibes!
Though created in the heart of Tequila country in Jalisco Mexico, because it's not made with Blue Weber agave, it's a spirit and not a Tequila. The story of how Piermont Brands teamed up with Caleb Pressley is one of those "right place, right time" moments. Spirits industry veteran Brian Axelrod, a founding partner of Chica~Chida and a longtime friend of Pressley, paid him a visit in Florida. During the trip, Axelrod casually offered Pressley a taste of a sample he had on hand—and that single sip sealed the deal. The rest, as they say, is history.
Chica~Chida retails for around $24.99 and can be purchased on their official website and at Total Wine.
