Frosting is a necessary addition to many of the most popular dessert items. A cake without it isn't a cake, and a doughnut without it is just old-fashioned and plain. That said, Philadelphia knows that life without frosting is no fun and has developed one of its own.

Known for their wide variety of cream cheeses, the company is now launching cream cheese frosting. In what will be the first-ever refrigerated cream cheese from a mainstream U.S. brand, the product will be available in 16oz tubs this October.

"Bringing the creamy deliciousness of Philadelphia to the frosting category just makes sense and it's a great example of how we're giving our fans new ways they can enjoy Philly in the Kitchen," said Becca Dunphey, President of Taste, Meals, and Snacking at The Kraft Heinz Company in a press release.

The perfect companion for desserts and snacks

In what will instantly become a perfect option for spreading on cupcakes and other dessert treats, the frosting is said to balance sweet and tangy. And while I'm a big fan of Betty Crocker and Pillsbury, I believe this has the potential to become a popular item.

Also, if you're someone who is skeptical about cream cheese frosting, I was once in your shoes. Although I am not a fan of cream cheese itself, I quickly became a fan of the icing. Many places like Crumbl Cookies, Cinnabon, and Sprinkles Cupcakes use it, which has made me realize that my sweet tooth will prevail over my pickiness.

That said, after a year of developing a recipe that the company felt properly reflects the Philadelphia brand, they formulated a frosting that will definitely be in my fridge upon release. And just like a man's best friend is a dog, a dessert item/snack's best friend is the icing that goes on top.
