Pizza Hut Cheeseburger Melt review: In the most loving way possible, stay in your lane

Foodies, gather! Pizza Hut has added a new item to its menu. Is it a new pizza topping? A different type of crust? What has Pizza Hut blessed our taste palates with this time? You’ll never guess. It’s a burger. No, really. Well, it sort of is. 

When you are craving a burger, I’m willing to bet all the money under my mattress that Pizza Hut isn’t the first place (or second or third) that comes to mind. Well, Pizza Hut is hoping to change that with its new Cheeseburger Melt. Pizza Hut’s Melts are not a new thing, there’s a whole menu section just for them. I have actually stopped at my local Pizza Hut for a Melt (the Pepperoni Lover’s Melt is my favorite, by the way). They’re pretty good. This new Cheeseburger Melt, though? I’m sorry, it’s a hard pass for me. 

Pizza Hut’s Cheeseburger Melt places bacon, onions, mozzarella, and cheddar cheese inside a parmesan-crusted Melt. To take the burger experience to the next level (or attempt to), this Melt is served with Burger Sauce on the side. 

When I said this was a pass for me, I wasn’t blindly hating. No. I went to Pizza Hut to give this a try so you don’t have to! And let me just say, you owe me one! No, I'm kidding. I did not enjoy the Cheeseburger Melt, but it’s also not terrible. 

The Cheeseburger Melt is an imposter 

The main question curious foodies have is, does it really taste like a cheeseburger? From my experience, yes and no. The Cheeseburger Melt tastes like an imposter trying to pass as a cheeseburger, and my taste buds aren’t having it, pal, you gotta do better than that! All that this Cheeseburger Melt does is make you wish you were having an actual burger.

This isn’t the first time a pizza chain has tried to be edgy by adding a menu item that isn’t what they majored in. Thankfully, the new Cheeseburger Melt is only here for a limited time. 

If this review now has you craving a melt, Pizza Hut does offer a delicious Pepperoni Lover’s Melt. Think pepperoni pizza, but two slices folded together for double the pepperoni and double the cheese in every bite. The pizza chain also has the Buffalo Chicken Melt, the Chicken Bacon Parmesan Melt, and the Meat Lover’s Melt. Just skip the cheeseburger one, and stick with the pizza.
