Are you bored with the same old, same old during Super Bowl watch parties? Do you want to shake things up with a rather unique dish? Want to take the turkey out of the holiday season? Then this recipe for a Char Siu inspired brined turkey breast shared by Hormel Foods is going to be a must try (at least once).
We first learned about this recipe in October 2023 and had a chance to try this for ourselves (although it definitely didn't happen in time for Thanksgiving). And according to the press email that introduced us to this recipe, "Hormel Chef Barry Greenberg worked with local foodie and blogger Tiffany Alexandria who grew up eating Char Siu in Taiwan to develop this Char Siu Brined Turkey Breast recipe."

The interesting thing about this recipe was how easy it ended up being. It honestly was more work putting in the ingredients together versus actually doing the cooking. In order to make a Char Siu inspired brined turkey breast, it is all about allowing actually allowing the brine to infuse into the meat. And while the recipe calls for between eight and 24 hours, we highly recommend leaving your turkey breast to brine for the full 24 hours. It will end up infusing so much flavor into the meat that you may never go back to the usual cooking methods for this particular bird.

The only downside to this recipe for me was the use of soy sauce as I am not really supposed to have it. That being said, I did try this recipe exactly as written and enjoyed the flavors all around. Next time, I may look for an alternative to the soy sauce and see how that changes the flavor of the brine.
