PSA: Today is Slurpee BYO Cup Day at 7-Eleven, where anything is a cup

Yes, even that cup is a cup.

One of the most famous paintings created by René Magritte is titled “The Treachery of Images.” It depicts a pipe, and contains the words “Ceci n'est pas une pipe.” Translated: this is not a pipe, because it’s actually the image of a pipe. But 7-Eleven won’t have any of that, as today, on Slurpee BYO Cup Day, anything can be a cup. Even a pipe.

Today only at 7-Eleven, Speedway and Stripes, bring in literally anything that holds a Slurpee – your hands, a hat, a bucket, etc – and for only $1.99, you can fill it up with the beverage.

"BYOC Day is a time-honored tradition at 7-Eleven that we look forward to each year," said Dennis Phelps, Senior Vice President, Merchandising (Vault and Proprietary Beverages) at 7-Eleven via press release. "We love seeing our customers – of all ages – bring their imagination and creativity to life while enjoying our beloved Slurpee drink."

Your mind – at least, my mind – may immediately go to “well how big a container can I bring in?” And while I think they would probably draw a line at an oil tanker, or if you brought a hose to fill up your car, as long as you can carry in the “cup” you should be able to fill it up. The brand also specifies that containers need to be “clean, watertight, leak-proof, and fits upright within the 10-inch hole in the in-store display, indicating it can fit under the Slurpess drink dispenser.”

While that might sound limiting, 7-Eleven proudly showed off customers who in previous years used a sandcastle mold, a Halloween trick-or-treat pumpkin, and even what looks like a Brita 27-cup Ultra-Large water dispenser. So, you know, no hats other than hard hats, but otherwise the sky is the (relative) limit.

In case you don’t want a hard hat full of Slurpee, which is, you know, reasonable, if you’re a loyalty club member you can get a large Slurpee in a normal ol’ Slurpee cup for $1 today, as well. Which, speaking as someone who maxes out at the smallest size possible, is a lot of Slurpee.
