When we think of the Sonic drive-in, the first thing that usually comes to mind is icy cold drinks, shakes, and chili cheese dogs. But their burgers and fries are usually a winner too. And this summer, Sonic is adding a new cheeseburger to the menu that might just become a favorite for many.

According to the press email we received on behalf of Sonic drive-ins, starting on July 29, customers who use the app will have early access to their new Sonic Smasher! The Sonic Smasher is a smashed cheeseburger featuring two Angus patties, two slices of American cheese, the perfect amount of seasoning, plus a tangy Smasher sauce, finished off with crinkle cut pickles and diced onions. All of this comes served on a soft potato burger bun.

And if you want to step up your smashed cheeseburger game, then why not get it as a Triple Sonic Smasher! It's more meat and more cheese to really satisfy those cravings and hunger pangs.

While the Sonic Smasher Cheeseburgers will drop on July 29 for people who order through the app, they will officially roll out nationwide on August 5. This means that once August starts, everyone will be able to snag this new cheeseburger offering off the menu. And we can't wait, because we need to get our hands on one (or two) of these cheeseburgers to try them for ourselves.

If you want to try the Sonic Smasher, these will hit the menu starting at $6.49, while the Triple Sonic Smasher will ring in starting at $7.49.

With the increasing popularity of elevated burgers and premium cheeseburger experiences, it makes sense that more restaurants will want to lean into these menu items. And according to the Chief Marketing Officer for Sonic, Ryan Dickerson, "Consumers should be able to indulge in a premium cheeseburger without having to pay the high costs charged by many fast-casual burger brands. Our mission at SONIC has always been to bring fun, craveable food to our guests at unbeatable prices.”

We happen to agree with Dickerson and we are excited to have a new, elevated cheeseburger to try without the hefty price tag usually found at sit down restaurants. And we are definitely excited for this new addition to the Sonic menu. Are you?
