Subway Sidekicks menu review: We tried the Footlong Cookie, Churro, and Pretzel

Subway Sidekicks are here! But are the new collabos with Auntie Anne's, Cinnabon, and, er, Subway, worth it?

On January 18, 2024, Subway, the company best known for that intoxicating yeast smell when you walk into a store, dropped a bomb: they were expanding from footlong sandwiches to three other footlong items. Those items, called Sidekicks, include pretzels, churros, and cookies… And they’re all a foot long, just like Subway’s signature sandwiches.

Though Subway is known for the sandwiches, real ones do know that their soft-baked cookies have also been a signature treat of the shops for years. And in fact, the footlong cookie was floated at a few local shops in 2022 and 2023, before the company took the recipe back and perfected it.

Or did they??? I headed to my local Subway this week to check out all three items on the Sidekick menu. And after getting past the initial confusion with the shop owner that I wanted all three items, and no sandwiches, I sat down with my hot and ready Sidekicks, along with a trusty nine-year-old companion to get the “kid take,” to determine what is the best of the best.

That said, there was one decision we needed to make first, and that was what order to go in. My assistant made the sage decision that pretzels are salty and more like a meal, followed by churros (a light snack, according to him), and then the cookie, which is dessert. That out of the way, let’s get into it. Are the new Subway Sidekicks a worthy addition to the menu?
