Subway Sidekicks menu review: We tried the Footlong Cookie, Churro, and Pretzel

Subway Sidekicks are here! But are the new collabos with Auntie Anne's, Cinnabon, and, er, Subway, worth it?

Subway Sidekicks: Auntie Anne’s Footlong Pretzel

Here’s how Subway describes the footlong pretzel, according to their press release announcing the Sidekicks:

The Auntie Anne's Footlong Pretzel for $3, reimagines Auntie Anne's buttery and salty classic, served with a side of Subway's Honey Mustard that takes each bite to another level.

I’ll admit, I’m not the biggest fan of Auntie Anne’s pretzels. The cinnamon pretzel bites are okay because they are doused in cinnamon sugar and butter. But I find their regular pretzels too hard to bite, tasteless and turn stale far too quickly.

This footlong pretzel was no different. The butter and salt were both lightly applied, which is nice because there’s a level of salt on a pretzel where that’s all you’re tasting. However, even with the light touch most of the butter/salt got wiped away when I pulled the pretzel out of the packaging. Versus your regular New York street pretzel, which is hot, toasty, and easy to rip pieces off of, this was hard to bite after about two minutes.

Of note, the shop seemed to be out of honey mustard, so I didn’t try that. Maybe that makes the experience better? I don't know!

Also perhaps of note, while I was done with this after the requisite two bites (one to get the initial taste, second to confirm), my companion, who is addicted to pretzels, thought it was pretty good and finished the whole thing. So if you’re going to Subway with a picky eater, maybe this is a good item to get?
