SunChips giving away eclipse-themed chips for 4 minutes and 27 seconds only
The solar eclipse is rapidly approaching on Monday, April 8. And while some brands are rolling out week-long treats, SunChips is going the other route, with a limited edition bag of chips that will be available for the duration of the eclipse only. That’s right: for four minutes and 27 seconds, you can get your hands on Pineapple Habanero and Black Bean Spicy Gouda SunChips. And then, like the solar eclipse, they’re gone forever.
Why this flavor specifically? According to SunChips parent brand Frito-Lay, the Pineapple Habanero and Black Bean Spicy Gouda combines “sunny skies and bright days ahead while nodding to the moon with a cheesy touch.” Sure! I’ll buy that. Literally, I will buy that.
The chips were created in conjunction with astronaut and researcher Kellie Gerardi, who said via press release, "As a researcher and astronaut with a love for all things space, I can't wait to celebrate this exciting event with SunChips. Total solar eclipses are rare and special events, and I hope people can take a moment out of their busy lives to pause and enjoy the incredible sight. That's why I'm so excited that SunChips is commemorating this rare celestial event by offering fans a chance to get in on the fun with their exclusive Solar Eclipse flavors."
What you’re probably wondering, though, given the limited time frame, is how to get your hands on a bag. Starting at 1:33 pm CT, aka 2:33 pm ET or 11 am PT on April 8, you can grab a bag at SunChipsSolarEclipse.com, while supplies last. Which If we had a hunch will be a shorter period of time than the already short eclipse.
The even nicer news here is that this deal is fun, but SunChips is also put their money where other people’s mouths are by donating $50,000 to the PepsiCo Foundation’s Food for Good U.S. social enterprise at the same time. The program provides meals in schools, after-school, and summer programs that are probably not just pineapple and black bean flavored SunChips, but that wasn’t explicitly stated via press release, so who knows.
So, good luck out there grabbing your limited edition SunChips. Hopefully, you’ll have it made in the shade.
