Back in April, KFC launched their new line of Saucy Nuggets. Basically chicken nuggets tossed in sauce, the flavors varied but overall were pretty good (you can read our review for more). And now, Wendy’s is getting into the Saucy Nuggs game starting today with early access for their own line of nuggs tossed in sauce.

While the nuggets won’t be officially released in stores until June 10, if you’re a reward member on the app or online, you can order them right now. Well, lunchtime, I’m writing this during breakfast time and they don’t open up for availability until 10:30 am, at least here in New York.

That said, let’s talk about what you can get. They’re available in orders of 4, 6, 10, or 20. Prices here in NYC range from $2.79 (for four), to $3.89 (for six), to $5.79 (for 10), up to $10.49 (for 20). When you click to order, confusingly it prompts you to “choose your sauce.” To be clear: this is not the sauce for the Saucy Nuggs, it’s a side dipping sauce. I stared at that prompt for about a minute before I figured it out, because I am dumb.

Anyway you can get Buttermilk Ranch Sauce, Blue Cheese Dressing, or No Sauce on the side. Once you select that, you’ve got a bunch of choices of flavors: Honey BBQ, Spicy Honey BBQ, Garlic Parm, Spicy Garlic Parm, Buffalo, Spicy Buffalo, and Spicy Ghost Pepper.

You can also make it a combo by adding a drink and fries (or another side of your choice) for an extra price. You know how combos work, I didn’t need to explain that.

As mentioned, and as of this publishing, Wendy’s Saucy Nuggs are available now for early access, so you can check them out for yourself. However, to loop back to the KFC of it all, one significant difference here with their line of Saucy Nuggets – beyond KFC having a dry rub for some flavors, which isn’t technically a sauce – is that Wendy’s is actually using nuggets. For KFC, their Saucy Nuggets are more like fried chicken bits, heavy on the breading. So if you’re looking for a more classic nugget experience, Wendy’s is probably the way to go.
