Yasso Greek Yogurt Bars review: No guilt here, they’re delicious

The brand has rolled out some new frozen yogurt bars that won’t tip the scales.

Look, it’s right there in the name: Guilty Eats. The whole idea of the site is to find yummy snack foods and delectable fast food items that make you drool with hunger. So imagine my surprise when I tried Yasso’s new line of Greek yogurt bars only to discover that A) they are creamy and delicious, and B) they’re all 140 calories or less and made with real fruit. Tricked! Betrayed! Other words!

The new line was released back on March 26 and includes three different flavors: Strawberry Chocolate Crunch, Strawberries & Cream, and Creamy Mango. All three flavors were provided by Yasso for review, so I was able to compare and contrast the whole line.

First and foremost, the brand recommends you let the bars sit for about a minute or two before consuming, so they can soften slightly, and this is what I would refer to as a Good Tip (trademark). While the Mango and Chocolate Crunch were perfect after this time, the Strawberries & Cream maintained a bit of that “frozen twice” consistency you get the second time you try to dig into a carton of ice cream. However, none of the bars melted into a puddle, either, which was nice to see.

Second, let’s talk about the annoying “healthy” part of these. They all have 4 grams of protein and are made with yogurt and real fruit. And the crunchy bits on the Strawberry Chocolate Crunch Bars aren’t rice – they’re quinoa crisps. As someone who regularly mainlines cheese, this is possibly all against my religion. But biting into the bars, they’re as rich and decadent as any ice cream bar. Again, the nerve of this brand, getting me to eat relatively healthy snacks! How very dare they!

They’re also not heavy on the fruit, mind you. While I got a little bit of a strawberry seed here and there in the Strawberries & Cream, and one of my tasting partners got a chunk of mango in – you’re not going to believe this – the mango bars, these are mostly smooth yogurt bars with a nice bite to them that melt in your mouth, not in your hand. Hey, that’s a good slogan! Yasso, feel free to use that one, on me.

As for the best of the best, everyone agreed the Mango was heads and tails above the other. Not too sweet, not too tart, it has the perfect amount of mango flavor, and if you’re a fan of the fruit you’ll love these. I was partial to the Strawberry Chocolate Crunch because you can’t go wrong with encasing strawberries in chocolate and crunchies, but that was number two on the list for everyone else.

Unfortunately, the Strawberries & Cream was at the bottom of the three. Like the Mango, it isn’t too strong on the strawberry. But whereas that makes the mango flavor sing, we could have used a little more berry than straw. That didn’t make any sense at all, but hopefully, you understand what I mean.

Regardless, if you’re looking for a new ice cream snack that - sob - won’t make you feel guilty, Yasso Greek yogurt bars will make you say “yass.” Oh, wait, that slogan is way better.
