Lately, much of the buzz surrounding Applebee’s has been about its Really Big Meal Deal. The deal features a choice of a Big Classic Bacon Cheeseburger or a Big Cluckin’ Chicken Sandwich, a side of fries, and a drink — all for $9.99. While the Three for Me menu will always hold a special place in my heart (sorry, Applebee’s), it’s hard to deny this is a fantastic value.
In addition to the Really Big Meal Deal, the restaurant chain quietly introduced two new skillet options: the Hot Honey Chicken & Bacon Skillet and the Sizzlin’ Caramel Apple Pie. Applebee’s invited me to sample these offerings at my local restaurant.
My thoughts on the Sizzlin' Skillets
Before diving into the main course, I started with my usual favorites: the Mozzarella Sticks and Boneless Wings. I also tried the new Bahama Mama Beach Mocktail, which was refreshing and transported me to a tropical beach — at least in spirit — even though I was dining in a snowy neighborhood Applebee’s.
For my entrée, I opted for the Hot Honey Chicken & Bacon Skillet. As a longtime fan of the Bourbon Street Chicken & Shrimp Skillet, I always appreciate how piping hot the food arrives. This visit was no different — I had to wait a moment before taking my first bite.
The dish was delicious, though the flavor leaned more toward sweet honey-glazed chicken than hot honey. While it lacked a significant kick, the parsley added a subtle spice, and the crispy bacon provided a satisfying crunch. Pair that with tasty waffle fries plus sautéed onions and mushrooms — this meal was hearty and flavorful. Best of all, even those who are spice-averse can enjoy this dish.
For dessert, I stayed with the skillet theme and chose the Sizzlin’ Caramel Apple Pie. As someone who enjoys warm desserts, I find this pie an excellent choice. However, it’s a generously portioned treat — likely best shared with someone else, especially after a full meal of appetizers and entrées.
Overall, the new skillets sizzle rather than fizzle. Of the two, I preferred the Hot Honey Chicken & Bacon Skillet, but both are worth trying. If you find yourself at an Applebee’s soon, I recommend checking out these delicious new offerings.
