As a longtime Starbucks customer, there are some things that I absolutely love about the company. And their perks program for rewards members is absolutely at the top of that list. The fact that you can earn stars for your purchases and then take those stars and get free food, drinks, and even merchandise was a big reason why I have opted to go there for my daily coffee.
However, things are once again changing when it comes to the rewards program. And it turns out that one of the best perks of the program (in my opinion) is getting adjusted.
If you are a reward member, then you might already be familiar with the fact that if you bring in your own cup, you not only get a $.10 discount off of your order, but you will also earn 25 points or stars. Once you hit 100 stars, you get a freebie.
However, towards the end of June, Starbucks will be changing that according to an ABC news affiliate. While we will still be able to get the $.10 discount for bringing our own tumblers or cups into Starbucks, we will no longer be earning the 25 bonus stars. Instead, we will just be getting double stars for our order. For some of us that means a big cut from what we were earning before. However, if you place a big order along with bringing in your cup, that could end up benefiting you.
Starbucks is changing the stars you earn from bringing in your own tumbler or cup
As a longtime customer, I admit that I have not often brought my own cup in. And I am one of those people who buys tumblers from Starbucks all the time. However, I have always appreciated that extra perk of the 25 bonus stars anytime I have brought in my own tumbler. So to know that that is going away is highly disappointing. Although I typically order two drinks in a purchase, because I am ordering for another person, it’s still not going to work out to the same amount of stars as before. This means I will be earning less stars moving forward.
Maybe it’s me, but this is highly disappointing. All of the recent changes that Starbucks has made to try to improve their bottom line have definitely been interesting. I don’t think that some of the decisions have been wrong, but at the same time some of them don’t make the most sense as a customer.
However, I am still a fan. I will still be going to Starbucks and getting my caramel macchiato, my iced Matcha lattes, and even that pink drink once in a while. Maybe it is me, but this is definitely not inspiring me to bring in my own cup after June.
