It's hard to say no to an opportunity to indulge in a churro.

In the past few months, Taco Bell has been busy rolling out new menu items. In December, the chain debuted its version of chicken nuggets — a surprisingly pleasant addition. January brought dipping burritos, an excellent snack option. And now, Taco Bell is back with a take on one of the most beloved Mexican dessert delicacies: the churro.

As someone who deems himself a churro connoisseur, with a consumption resume that includes churros from El Pollo Loco to Disney World to vendor carts in Los Angeles, I knew I had to take a trip to Taco Bell.

After waiting in line for about 15 minutes, I finally got my hands on the cinnamon-sugar treat, easily one of my favorite desserts. Since I’d already had a big dinner, I opted for a single churro, which cost $1.99. If you're feeling extra indulgent, you can grab two for $2.99.

At this point, it was time for my first bite. The first thing that stood out to me was that the churro delivered a great crunch. The next thing I tasted was the overload of sugar, which infiltrated my tastebuds.

Of course, that’s to be expected from a churro filled with a white chocolate vanilla filling and coated in rainbow sprinkles — something straight out of a child’s birthday party.

Was it tasty? Absolutely. But in my opinion, a churro is already a sweet indulgence. The extra filling and sprinkles felt like overkill, masking the simplicity that makes a churro so enjoyable in the first place.

The bottom line is this one is tailor-made for those with an extreme sweet tooth. Between the sprinkles and the rich filling, it might be a bit much for purists like me who prefer a more traditional take.

Still, I encourage you to give this limited-edition treat a try before it sells out. Just be sure to have some water — and napkins — on hand.
