The TikTok sensation is official as Skittles POP’d drops

If there is one thing we can count on when it comes to TikTok, it is that it will introduce us to things that we never knew we wanted or needed. And that was especially true as it introduced the magic of freeze-dried treats to a wider audience of foodies.

While freeze-dried food is nothing new, with the help of TikTok, it has certainly garnered a much wider audience. It has also gotten extra creative. And with so many treats getting the freeze-dried love, it was only a matter of time before the brands decided to get in on the action for themselves.

When Skittles announced their new Skittles POP'd freeze-dried candies in both Original and Sour, we knew we needed to give these a try for ourselves. And since we have tried these treats from TikTok shops in the past, we wanted to see what would be different between the smaller creators and the official brand.

Even Skittles themselves is getting in on the magic of freeze-dried candies

I would say that there is no real difference between the TikTok shop version of this treat and the Skittles version, except for the fact that you know what you are getting when it comes to the official product. There is a sense of safety that comes from snagging a bag of Skittles POP'd. And it certainly helps that the Sour version is simply iconic.

We had the opportunity to try the Sour Skittles POP'd and we are obsessed. The crunch is so fun and the flavors really pop on your tongue. While we expect that the Original is just amplified flavor, the Sour is also a real win in terms of that pop of sweet and sour on the tongue.

While the freeze drying process brings a crispness to these sweets, the longer it is in your mouth the more that classic chewiness kicks in. And while this treatment of the candy really brings the flavor up a notch, it is still exactly what you expect from Skittles candies.

The Skittles POP'd dropped on TikTok for fans to snag early before they head to retail stores in 2025. And we don't know about you, but we are pretty excited to see if freeze-dried candy becomes a permanent addition to the candy aisle or not.
