When it comes to health issues that can derail your day, migraines top the list. The throbbing pain, light sensitivity, and nausea can make even simple tasks feel impossible. But now, the internet might have cooked up a surprising remedy — and it’s straight from the McDonald’s menu.

Coke and fries might be the solution to your next migraine

That’s right: Coke and fries are being dubbed the “migraine meal” by social media users. The idea? Head to your local McDonald’s and order a large fries with a Coke the next time a migraine strikes.

It might sound like junk food overkill, but there’s some logic behind it. The fries are high in sodium and carbs, which can help restore electrolyte balance — something that’s often off during a migraine. The Coke adds a dose of caffeine, a known migraine reliever. (It’s one of the key ingredients in Excedrin, after all.) Caffeine helps constrict blood vessels, easing inflammation and lowering pressure. The sugar boost from the soda may also help regulate blood sugar, which can dip during an attack.

Still, this is by no means something that should be done frequently. With the high amounts of sodium and sugar, this is a meal that will make you have even more health problems than just migraines if done long-term. However, if you seek an occasional option that can provide comfort and slight relief, this is not a bad way to do it.

As with most internet hacks, you never know how good or effective they are until you try them — but it’s always interesting to see creative approaches to the pains of migraines. While the Chick-fil-A McGriddle hack is still my favorite, this one is nice because everything you need is in one place.

So next time a migraine hits and you’re desperate for relief, maybe give the “migraine meal” a try. Worst case? You get a snack. Best case? You feel just a little bit better.
