With Christmas fast approaching, you might be planning which sweet treats will be part of your holiday menu. And if you are looking for some inspiration this season, it might be worth checking out the list of the most popular Christmas Desserts in the U.S.
Thanks to a recent study courtesy of Coffeeness, we know exactly what the most popular Christmas desserts are in all 50 states. And that means that we have an idea of what people want this holiday season when it comes to those sweet treats.
Honestly, the results of this study were quite interesting in a lot of ways. The number one dessert makes us think of Thanksgiving and not Christmas, while the fourth most popular dessert was actually a surprise to us (in fact, it wasn't even on our radar as a Christmas dessert).
So what are the most popular desserts across the country this Christmas?
Which Christmas desserts are the most popular?
According to the Coffeeness study, the break down of popular Christmas desserts is as follows:
- Pumpkin Pie (the most popular dessert in an impressive 20 states)
- Sugar Cookies (popular in 15 states)
- Red Velvet (interestingly, they don't mention if this is a cake or another Red Velvet dessert in the six states where this is the top Christmas treat)
- Tiramisu (this dessert is popular in four states, including Massachusetts and Nevada)
- Pecan Pie (popular in two states)
- Biscotti (popular in one state: Georgia)
- Carrot Cake (popular in one state: Indiana)
- Rice Pudding (popular in one state: Utah)
Honestly, the only desserts that came as no surprise on this list were definitely the sugar cookies, pecan pie and red velvet. The most surprising thing was how few states had pecan pie at the top of their popularity list. (And I admit that I was surprised that Georgia's most popular Christmas dessert was biscotti.)
This was such an interesting study in terms of the results and even the breakdown. Will this inspire us this Christmass when it comes to planning our desserts? We don't really know, but we may have to show some more love to the pecan pie.
