When two worlds collide: IHOP and Applebee's come together for combined restaurant
By Trey Weston
When you think of places where you can order food from two different restaurants at the same time, a couple of pairings might come to mind: Taco Bell/KFC or Pizza Hut and A&W/Long John Silver’s. But what if you could enjoy a stack of pancakes and boneless wings simultaneously? That dream is becoming a reality thanks to an innovative idea by Dine Brands.
A combined Applebee's and IHOP restaurant is coming to Texas
Arriving in 2025, a combined Applebee’s and IHOP restaurant will open just 35 miles from San Antonio, Texas. The concept, new to the U.S., allows patrons to order items from both menus, as the two restaurants share the same kitchen. This innovative model has already been implemented in 13 locations across Latin America, Canada, and the Middle East, with notable financial success.
"By operating both brands out of a single store and utilizing a shared kitchen, the company is looking to drive visits throughout the full day and reduce the costs of operating two separate restaurants," R.J. Hottovy, head of research at Placer.ai said in a statement to CNN.
Early renderings make the concept seem intriguing
As an enthusiast of both restaurants, I found the renderings to be exciting. On one side, you have the sports bar feel that is Applebee's, while on the other you have the calming and lowkey atmosphere that is IHOP. And for both of those spots to be found in one building while having the option to eat from both is a winner in my book.
That said, I now have to plan a trip when the combined restaurant opens. I’ve never been to San Antonio, and now I have a reason to visit — boneless wings and pancakes together sound like a must-try.
