How do you end a meal of fried fish? Long John Silver’s recommends the golden fried cake of a deep fried Twinkie.

What started as a crazy carnival food is now a popular fast food dessert. Long John Silver’s sells deep fried Twinkie as a dessert option. Who’s craving a Twinkie?

From a Business Wire press release,

"“We know from decades of experience that people crave our food. They will pass several other restaurants to satisfy their Long John Silver’s craving. We think the Deep Fried Twinkie™ will be the perfect sweet ending for those making the trip.”"

At select Long John Silver’s locations, the Twinkie dessert is sold. Now through July 23, the dessert is just 99 cents. The company expects to add this dessert to more locations later this year.

Twinkies have many cultural references and urban myths. I remember the lines from Ghostbusters, where the iconic Twinkie is used to represent the ghost energy in New York. In Zombieland, Woody Harrelson’s character searches in vain for the last remaining box of Twinkies.

This dessert is part the social fabric. While the urban myth of the snacks shelf life has been debunked, the story is still legendary. The movie WALL-E has a Twinkie surviving in the cosmic trash-filled planet. Truthfully, a Twinkie is supposed to last about 45 days, still a relatively long time for a snack.

In 2012, consumers raided store shelves fearing the Twinkie’s demise. Reports of empty shelves were everywhere. The resale prices were insane. The showing of brand loyalty ensured that the infamous Twinkie would remain a store staple.

Luckily, there is no Twinkie shortage. Hostess has even introduced new flavors. At the 2017 Sweets and Snacks Show, chocolate Twinkies and chocolate covered Twinkies were shown. The golden sponge cake filled with cream has retained its popularity.
