Despicable Me Minions, the funny, oddly shaped yellow creatures, have taken over favorite food brands. With the new movie release, these characters tie-ins are everywhere.

Gru’s adorable creations, the Despicable Me Minions, are instantly identifiable. While they may not speak English, these movie characters are popular with adults and kids. A few, like Kevin and Bob, stand out from the crowd. Still, the bright yellow creatures who love bananas seem to be finding their way into some favorite foods. Is this another part of Gru’s evil plan to take over the universe?

Product tie-ins aren’t new for movies. I remember all the Happy Meal toys that featured characters from the summer’s biggest movies. But, the minion food take over seems to be happening in a larger scale. So many products have the minion stamp of approval.

At Sweets and Snacks Expo in May, Jelly Belly showed its new version of BeanBoozled featuring the minions. BeanBoozled, minion edition, is a “game” where you eat various Jelly Bellys, but the flavor may be unexpected. For example, both sour apple and minion fart look alike, but taste quite different. Yes, I tried it and I survived. May not be my top choice, but it didn’t make me heave.

Throughout the many aisles of SSE17 and now the supermarket, minions were everywhere. Nutella has a minion branded jars. A quick search of Nutella’s website shows several minion inspired recipes too. Pancakes, French toast and a few more feature Nutella and the favorite Despicable Me characters.

Kellogg cereals, Pop Tarts and many more all have the adorable minions on the packaging. Walk down supermarket store aisles and it looks like a minion takeover. Almost any meal or any time of the day can be enjoyed with a minion related product.

McDonald’s is joining the minion fun too. Unfortunately, only McDonald’s Singapore has these minion treats. As seen on social media, a minion inspired honey banana McFloat, banana McDip and many more. The yellow and blue minion theme promoting Despicable Me 3 is everywhere in those McDonald’s locations. Unfortunately, this movie tie-in promotion didn’t make it to the U.S.
