Oreo’s Wonder Vault brews Dunkin’ Donuts mocha flavor

Since a classic is no longer good enough, the Oreo Wonder Vault brewed Dunkin’ Donuts Mocha flavor Oreos. Is anyone else wish for just a plain Oreo with a glass of milk?

For the past several months, Oreo has launched a variety of unusual flavors. From jelly filled to pop rocks firecracker, the classic Oreo keeps getting transformed. The newest Oreo Wonder Vault creation is Dunkin’ Donuts mocha flavor. While I’m sure there is a market for this newest creation, I question why the classic Oreo good isn’t enough.

For the past couple of months, Oreo has been exploring all types of new flavors. The Wonder Vault is part of a fan contest. Encouraging creativity, Oreo and its fans have seen inventive, or possibly ridiculous, flavor combinations. From jelly to avocado to unicorn, the creativity is limitless.

Released today, the Dunkin’ Donuts mocha flavor plays to the popularity of coffee flavors. Coffee, whether cold brewed, espresso or just plain cup of joe, is part of the daily fabric. Coffee shops line almost every street corner. Adding a mocha Oreo, in conjunction with a popular coffee chain, is a logical expansion. Still, do we really need another Oreo flavor?

Exploring new flavors isn’t an inventive concept. Every company is looking to set it apart from the competition or to define its part of the market. Also, change can be a good concept for a company if it is struggling. But, is the classic Oreo boring, stale or not viable? I don’t think so.

The classic Oreo, not even the double stuff, is a great cookie because it tastes good. The simplicity of the crunchy chocolate wafer and the creamy sweet filling is a delicious flavor combination. Dunk it in milk, pull it apart or eat it from the sleeve, a classic Oreo is, and always will be, a good treat.

Did Oreo really need another limited edition flavor? Probably not, but the promotion does get everyone talking about Oreos. Without these special Oreos would the classic cookie be in the news? I think that everyone could speculate on the answer.

So, will I be rushing to the store to try the new Oreo Wonder Vault Dunkin’ Donuts Mocha flavor, I don’t think so. But, I will pour myself a glass of ice, cold milk and dunk my classic Oreo after dinner tonight.
