Starbucks may have added to their menu, but this is what we really want to see
On March 5, Starbucks officially announced their Spring menu, which included two new additions and returning favorites, but we have some ideas for what we wish they had added.
When Starbucks announced that one of their newest menu item was inspired by Ariana Grande, we were thrilled. I mean, who wouldn’t want to drink a Cloud Macchiato inspired by the “thank u, next” singer? And the fact it comes in two flavors makes it a two-for-one punch. Plus, they added a lemon cake pop to the menu. But beyond these three unique additions to the Spring menu, we were left wanting more.
Sure, we got the return of the Cold Brew with Cascara Cold Foam, and a reminder that there are four different matcha green tea drinks on the menu, but beyond that, the menu basically remains the same. At the very least, we wish there had been a few more returning favorites or even some second chance drinks.

As a fan of the Creme Brulee Latte, I wouldn’t have minded if that became a Spring fling for Starbucks. Or perhaps capitalize on the idea of salted caramel, as the company has done in the past. In fact, one of the new items they are offering in grocery stores is a bottled Salted Dark Chocolate Frappuccino. Which is why I think they could have totally added something like a Salted Caramel Dark Chocolate Latte or Frappuccino to the in-store menu.
And let’s talk about the Caramelized Vanilla Honey Frappuccino that they are also selling in grocery stores. Why not bring those flavors in stores in the form of a new latte or even a Macchiato? This flavor combination sounds like it could be a real winner, and we bet it would do well at actual Starbucks locations, and not just as a bottled beverage on the go.
At one point the company played around with the idea of an assortment of tea lattes, which Serious Eats discussed back in 2009. While those tea lattes were a disappointment, we wouldn’t mind seeing them revamped and given new life. As fans of both the Matcha Green Tea Latte and the Chai Tea Latte, I would love it if Starbucks gave us one or two more tea latte options (especially with Teavana no longer existing).
Considering Starbucks was quick to point out how perfect their Green Tea drinks are for Spring, why wouldn’t we want to see a few more tea-based lattes on the menu? In fact, we wouldn’t mind seeing a few different lattes being added to the menu. Maybe a salted caramel mocha latte or a play off the vanilla latte could be included, even for a limited time.
We like when Starbucks plays around with flavors and gives us a new and unique flavor profile, which is why we would have loved to see a few more new drinks. After all, around the holidays it feels like the menu expands by nearly 10 different flavors, so why can’t Spring have the same treatment? And I am not even saying that they all have to be permanent, but at the very least give us some new options that last longer than a week or two.

While I am definitely excited by the Ariana Grande and Starbucks collaboration, I still wish there had been more on offer. In particular a few new tea lattes (iced and hot) or the return of my personal favorite, the Creme Brulee Latte. But for now, I will feed my disappointment with a lemon cake pop and down a Caramel Cloud Macchiato in the meantime.
What did you think of the new additions to the Starbucks Spring menu? Do you have any new additions that you wish had been added instead or in addition to what the company announced? Tell us your thoughts in the comments.
