Ranking the best Campbell’s Chunky Soup flavors

Campbell’s soups are forever classics! Not only are they quick to prepare, but they’re tasty, too! We’re ranking our favorite flavors from their Chunky Soup collection.

Campbell’s points out that, while spring may be in full swing, there are a lot of showers in the month of April. And showers bring plenty of chills, enough to make us all crave a nice, warm soup. Who better to turn to than Campbell’s iconic soups?

Earlier this month, Campbell’s sent a challenge our way — to rank Campbell’s Chunky Soup flavors! And if you know Guilty Eats, you know we don’t back down from a food challenge. The company sent over 10 flavors and I’ve been busy (and enlisted some help) with the challenge since then. Luckily, it actually has been storming here lately, so the mood for soup was set.

Here are all of the flavors that arrived ready to be consumed:

  • Creamy Chicken and Dumplings Soup
  • Jazzy Jambalaya with Chicken, Sausage and Ham Soup
  • Pub-Style Chicken Pot Pie Soup
  • New England Clam Chowder
  • Sirloin Burger with Country Vegetables
  • Classic Chicken Noodle Soup
  • Grilled Chicken Sausage and Gumbo
  • Grilled Sirloin Steak with Hearty Vegetables Soup
  • Chicken Corn Chowder
  • Chili Mac-Beans, Macaroni Pasta and Meat Soup

Just from the flavor and photo in the can, I instantly spotted a few I predicted would be winners. Chili Mac-Beans, Macaroni Pasta, for example. The Classic Chicken Noodle Soup and the Grilled Chicken Sausage and Gumbo also seemed to call my name. Here’s how they did…

Below, you’ll find the official ranking and how well these soups did! Proud to say, I wasn’t too far off with my predictions. Check it out and follow below for my comments!

  1. Classic Chicken Noodle Soup
  2. Grilled Sirloin Steak with Hearty Vegetables Soup
  3. Grilled Chicken Sausage and Gumbo
  4. Chili Mac-Beans, Macaroni Pasta and Meat Soup
  5. Sirloin Burger with Country Vegetables
  6. Pub-Style Chicken Pot Pie Soup
  7. Jazzy Jambalaya with Chicken, Sausage and Ham Soup
  8. Creamy Chicken and Dumplings Soup
  9. New England Clam Chowder
  10. Chicken Corn Chowder

It was a sure bet, at least in my opinion, that Classic Chicken Noodle Soup would rank at the top. This is a classic flavor that is tough to mess up, it’s almost fail-proof and I haven’t tried a chicken noodle soup I love more than Campbell’s.

Unlike the chicken noodle soup, though, Campbell’s Grilled Sirloin Steak with Hearty Vegetables Soup is not an easy flavor to get right. So we’re surprised we loved it so much, enough to rank it at No. 2. I was afraid there would be a can-after taste, but the steak and veggie flavors completely take over.

Perhaps I have a thing for grilled meats, because Grilled Chicken Sausage and Gumbo comes in at No. 3. Finally, Chili Mac-Beans, Macaroni Pasta and Meat Soup is a fun spin to regular mac n’ cheese.

Towards the bottom, you’ll find the Chicken Corn Chowder, which I found to be rather bland. At No. 9 is New England Clam Chowder, which has an after taste I didn’t care for.

Tip: While you can definitely microwave these chunky soups, I recommend heating them up over the stove in a pan. It heats it up all evenly and helps with any can or after-tastes.
