Guilty Taste: Putting KFC’s Cheetos Chicken Sandwich to the test
By Kareem Gantt
On the latest edition of Guilty Taste, I ventured into the depths of fast food weirdness to try KFC’s new Cheetos Chicken Sandwich. Here are my thoughts.
For a while, I was very hesitant to try KFC’s new freak-of-nature, the Cheetos Chicken Sandwich.
In my 34-years of life on this Earth, I have lived by a strict food code that refrains from throwing together food combinations like this one. Looking at the Cheetos Chicken Sandwich, it looks like something my 4-year-old niece would have put together — then instantly hated.
So when KFC introduced this enticingly weird sandwich, I was skeptical. I mean, we did live through the flop that was the Mac n’ Cheetos at Burger King, so I didn’t think that KFC would have that much success replicating the iconic snack into a chicken sandwich.

However, one day, I put my pride aside and ordered the sandwich. When I unwrapped it, It didn’t look particularly appetizing, so my expectations were on the real low, low. Then, I sunk my teeth into it and emerged pleasantly surprised at the result of that bite.
The Cheetos taste is there, no doubt about it; however, it didn’t overpower the sandwich as I first thought it would, creating an unexpected balance between the Cheetos and the chicken. Then, there’s the “Cheetos sauce,” and it was better than advertised.
Final Verdict
I’ll be completely honest here, I thought I was going to pile on the Cheetos Chicken Sandwich. It didn’t have an appetizing name, nor an appetizing look. Then again, things that we figure would suck to the 12th level of you-know-what has the power to shock us.
Will it be a sandwich I would order again? Probably not. However, it’s a sandwich that, when made right, can be a nice, tasty surprise to your taste buds and make one think that, hey, maybe there are some things that go together with Cheetos?
