Every year, Shark Week inspires people to learn about sharks, find shark-inspired products, and generally just enjoy something new, such as Cherry JAW-some a new brew from Breckenridge Brewery.
For this year’s Shark Week, there is a new beer in town to help commemorate the annual celebration of all things sharks thanks to Breckenridge Brewery. This new brew called Cherry JAW-some is not just any beer, from its flavor to the way profits of the beverage will be distributed.
With so many die-hard Shark Week fans out there, it makes sense that some of them would work in a brewery. In honor of this cultural phenomenon, the brewers at Breckenridge decide to create the perfect shark themed brew.
Cherry JAW-some is a cherry-lime beer that has a delicate red hue to it that really calls to mind the idea of blood in the water. Beyond the primary cherry and lime flavors, there is also a hint of saltiness to call to mind the oceans sharks call their home.

According to Head Innovations Brewer, Jimmy Walker, Cherry JAW-some came about after the brew team was playing with the idea of incorporating cherries as an ingredient in a new beer. Walker went on to say that, “the ominous red hue of the cherries sparked our thinking and reminded us of the dramatic footage we’ve seen played out during Shark Week.
The tartness of the lime cuts through the sweet cherry flavor for a really crisp, light and juicy brew. And the subtle salty note perfectly emphasizes all of those flavors, not to mention the nod to the ocean.”
What makes Cherry JAW-some so special is not the name, the label, or even the flavor (although all three of these things sound and look amazing), but it is the fact that $1 from every growler or pint sold by Breckenridge Brewery will be donated to Project AWARE, a nonprofit organization that brings passion and conservation efforts together.
Although the Brewery might be located in Colorado, there are still plenty of ocean and shark lovers in the landlocked state. And as brewery president, Todd Usry, explains, “Each year, the pub team tunes into the drama and suspense of Shark Week, so we decided to take it up a notch this year with a shark-inspired beer and a series of Shark Week viewing parties.”
With this kind of background, it makes sense that Breckenridge Brewery would go all in with their Cherry JAW-some brew, and it certainly helps that a part of the profits from the drink will be going to a good cause, which brings a passion for the ocean together with a desire to improve conservation efforts.
We are definitely excited by this new brew, not only because of the flavor of the beer, but also because of its connection to Shark Week. And the fact that we get a red hued beer certainly adds to that excitement too.
