Sotheby’s is auctioning off a collection of Whisky they believe to be the most valuable to ever hit the auction block
When it comes to auctions, Sotheby’s might be one of the best known of the high-end houses. And now they are about to auction a collection of Whisky that they say is one of the most valuable to be auctioned.
If you had a lot of money to do with as you pleased, what would you buy? Would you want to get your hands on a valuable collection of Whisky? If your answer to the question about Whisky is a yes, then you may want to hear about the upcoming auction from Sotheby’s that will see one of the most valuable collections of Whisky hitting the block.
According to Food & Wine, on September 27 bidding will open at Sotheby’s for “The Ultimate Whisky Collection.” And this is not just a gimmick to get people to spend their money on alcohol. The auction house has stated that this collection of Whisky is one of the most valuable to ever go up for auction.
While the bidding begins in September, the event is set to conclude with a live auction scheduled for October 24 at Sotheby’s in London. And with the auction house predicting that the “394 lots of 467 bottles and 9 casks” of Whisky will bring in at least $4.8 million, we can totally understand where they are coming from with their belief that this collection is extremely valuable.

And if you are a skeptic about how Whisky could be so valuable, just think that a single bottle of The Macallan 1926, with artwork from Valerio Adami on the bottle, sold for just over $1 million on its own. Of course, while that might be the most expensive Whisky bottle ever sold, there have been other bottles that have hit well into the six digits. This means that it is entirely possible that the collection Sotheby’s is about to auction off really will be the most valuable to hit the block after all.
To bring this into perspective a bit, at least one of those 467 bottles of Whisky is a Macallan 1926. And even if it doesn’t have artwork by one of the artists raking in the dough, the fact it is from the same cask does add to its value.
For Whisky lovers, this is the ultimate auction. And if you have the money to throw down, it makes sense that you might want to get your hands on this collection. After all, the prestige alone of owning “The Ultimate Whisky Collection” might just be worth the $4.8 million that Sotheby’s is predicting.
