The most popular Halloween candy, according to each state

Halloween season is here and there will soon be more candy than you can handle. Everyone has their favorites, but what about the favorite candy in each of the 50 states?

Well, Bid-On-Equipment took the liberty of finding out that answer when last week they released their 2019 “Most popular Halloween candy in every state” poll. The poll surveyed over 2,000 residential neighborhoods across the country to find out the answer.

Let’s be honest, whenever there’s a headline that reads “favorite something-or-other in every state” you can pretty much expect that there is going to be some absolutely outrageous option that a state puts down, especially when it comes to something food-related.

I don’t think you can’t blame me when I half-expected to open this poll up and see that Iowa liked “Wint-o-Green Lifesavers” or something of that sort. That said, I will fully admit that the results of this poll weren’t nearly as crazy as I thought!

For starters, the most popular candy across the 50 states was Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, a fantastic option for the top spot and it took number one in 12 states.

Coming in second was M&M’s, who not only had a variation of the treat come in as the “most popular candy” in 10 states as well as the country’s most populous city, New York City, but they even took the top spot in Florida, who we all know has some “interesting” stories and standards when it comes to news.

Now, of course, this poll wasn’t perfect and there are some obviously “what the heck” moments when you closely analyze it. The first thing that jumps to mind is that four states (Oklahoma, Tennessee, Nebraska, and North Dakota)  apparently love hot cinnamon candy when they trick or treat.

After that, a definite oddity is how much of the Southeast United States seems to think that Milk-Duds is an appropriate favorite candy, and don’t get me started on that fact that even though Hershey’s is legitimately headquartered in Pennsylvania, resident’s of the “Keystone State” have the gall to name Mars Bar their favorite Halloween candy.

Outside of just each U.S. state’s favorite candy, Bid-On-Equipment’s poll also found that most people believe the ideal time for trick-or-treating is between 6 p.m. and 9 p.m., that the age of 15 is when you’re officially too old to participate in the festivities and that Halloween should be moved to the last Saturday in October, a topic that has been discussed in the news recently.

Perhaps this will give people ideas of what candy will give the most smiles on October 31st in their neighborhood. As for me, I’ll just silently fume over the fact that Candy Corn still doesn’t get the respect it deserves.
