Hostess Hot Cocoa and Marshmallow Donettes for the win
By Bonnie
Hostess has a winter and holiday treat collection! And, for me, the star of this bunch is the Hot Cocoa and Marshmallow Mini Donuts!
Hostess does not have a history of disappointment in my book. I’ll admit it, I’m sometimes a comfort eater. When I am ready to potentially eat too much of something, I like to freeze their mini powdered donuts. Hey, don’t harass me, okay? You should try it if you haven’t, trust me.
I’m not a big fan of the ongoing pumpkin spice epidemic. Yes, it screams holidays, but that’s not an important bonus for me. Not to mention, this time of year isn’t just about holidays. Let’s face it, it’s also about winter, cold, and snuggling up.
What really interests me at this time of year is something that is going to make me all cozy and possibly even warm. What in the world comes to mind before hot cocoa?

Some people attach it to childhood comfort, some to romance. But is it the heat or the flavor?
This year, more than a few companies have jumped on the hot cocoa flavor bandwagon. This is probably why these little Hostess goodies seem like something new to some. In fact, Hostess brought them around in 2016 for the first time, but they tend to sort of vanish after the celebrations wrap up.
Now, sometimes you see an advertisement for something and it looks like absolute heaven. Then you jump through hoops to get the thing, and it’s not heaven. This is not one of those times. When I learned of the existence of my favorite minis in a flavor I already love, I was all in from the jump.
I saw these little yums by chance, and I was immediately drawn to them. Since I’m a bit of a foodie (I am a total foodie), I am always interested in debunking or verifying amazing claims. It’s like ghost hunting in a strange, and probably unnecessary, way.
So obviously, I bought them immediately. I slapped them on the counter and opened the pack right in the car. They were actually going to my Mom as a gift, but she understands when I “check them” for her. I know, I’m tacky. Whatever.
Well, it’s all true. These little minis literally taste like hot cocoa. And then, and then my lovely foodie friends, they started to blend into a marshmallow undertone. THEY CHANGED FLAVOR. I don’t know what science is behind that magic, and I don’t want to know. But it happened and I was happy about that.
The best news is that now you can enjoy that cocoa flavor without worrying about spilling it right in your lap or on your desk or something.
I will admit, they’re probably better dipped in something. Maybe smuggle them into your favorite coffee shop because they are better than what you can buy there.
As it turns out, these delightful sweeties seem to be kind of tricky to find. It almost looks like Walmart has them on lockdown if you do an internet search.
I happened to get mine at a convenience store, but I also found literally one bag for sale on Amazon. It’s probably gone now (I did not buy that bag of treats).
However, if you want to head over to the Hostess website, you will find not just a delicious and tempting visual list of their products, but also a store locator. Woohoo! But if you don’t see something nearby, don’t be discouraged.
There are always mom and pop shops with the personal size packs like I got. Take your chances and start looking around town! Involve your friends and family. Everyone needs a good mission every so often, OK? And tell them they can have one if they win the race.
So my advice is to hurry on out and get some before they vanish again to wherever they go when they’re not here. If you’re a patient planner type, get online and order some. But if you simply must have them this second, check out that store locator or get on out there and start looking! If you’re in the mood for that cocoamallow delish, you won’t be sorry.
