Here’s why we love the Nailed It Challenge and we think you will too
Ever since the Nailed It team issued their stay at home baking challenge, we have obsessed with the results that have been posted to social media. Here’s why we are loving this challenge.
Do you watch Nailed It on Netflix? Do you love watching the home bakers attempting to recreate baked works of art? If you’re anything like me, you’re slightly obsessed with this madcap baking series, and that means following them on social media too.
If you have been following the Nailed It team on social media, then you are probably familiar with their current stay at home challenge, which was announced by host Nicole Byer and resident judge Jacques Torres. The challenge is a weekly opportunity to bake a specialty cake shared to the show’s social media account.
What makes this challenge so much fun is the fact that there are actually a lot of us who are attempting these intricate bakes. There is an entire thread of people who have showcased their entries into the baking challenge using #NailedItChallenge. And even Torres himself is getting in on the action.
In an interview with Romper, Jacques Torres explained that it is all about looking for the good, even in the worst design. As he puts it, “An ugly cake is not always a bad cake, an ugly cake is sometimes delicious.”
And we completely agree. After all, how many times have you attempted to decorate a cake, only to make a mess of it, but when it came time to eat it, the result was as decadent as you could have hoped for.
The beauty of this challenge isn’t so much about a perfect recreation of these works of cake art, but rather showcasing your creativity and ability to think on your feet. Even Torres has said that there are times when things just don’t go right, such as when he makes tomato sauce (we love how he isn’t talking about his baking skills for this) and he finds himself doing more clean up than anything else.
Honestly, the Nailed It challenge is all about bringing people together, more than it is about showing off your baking techniques and skills. And we are obsessed with checking out all of the attempts that are being made. In many cases, it is clear that people are simply having fun and doing their best. We think that’s what counts no matter what the challenge is.
This is honestly the best thing the series could have done, because it is not only bringing people together at home, but it is also uniting us online. After all, who wouldn’t want to check out these creations? This is just as much fun as watching Nailed It itself.
