Mi Familia found a loophole to bring you a first class food festival while maintaining social distancing! Check out this incredible event that will hopefully inspire more awesome foodie events right away!

San Antonio is home to one of the most anticipated yearly festivals in Texas. This year, Fiesta has been postponed until November, bringing a big bummer to the locals and those who come to the event from far and wide. One local business that knows the true meaning of the phrase, “mi familia” wasn’t going to let that get anyone down.

Mi Familia de Mi Tierra came up with a plan to bring everyone together for a unique experience. To maintain social distancing needs, this authentic and delicious food festival was held as a drive-thru party.

From fried chicken to margaritas to go, everyone was super excited to venture out and safely get their food festival fix.

Residents of San Antonio are already familiar with the Cortez family restaurant, so they knew they were in for a treat when the establishment announced the event.

Free gifts were offered to the first visitors to arrive, and no one was bummed to take their margaritas home for a Saturday to remember. While we all navigate the unexplored territory of social distancing, this was a brilliant way to bring us together as foodies and friends.

The Cortez family’s iconic commitment to the community is staple knowledge to any local. Approaching 80 years in business, they have multiple locations, each with its own flair and charm. The RIM restaurant, the group’s baby of the familia, was the site of this weekend’s festivities.

It could be argued that no one appreciates Fiesta more than the Cortez family and their employees. Their mission has always been to establish and keep the Mexican traditions and culture alive and well in the San Antonio area.

In keeping with that goal, caring for the community has always been number one for their businesses. Understanding the importance of cultural experiences and festivities for families, they’ve done other such things as offering a “Festival Survival Kit” to console the “Fiesta deprived” during the wait for the big November party.

That’s only one reason why this weekend’s drive-thru food festival was always going to be a success. There is always food and drink flowing at every Cortez family establishment, but this event brings much-needed fun and comfort to all.

After this, we’re hoping to see other business all over take the hint and work around the changes we’ve all been enduring in our requirements to distance from each other. Mi Familia is just what it says it is. The pride they bring to their work shines through and everyone feels like they’re at their own home table.

To be able to bring that out into the public, without crossing any boundaries, is a monumental occurrence. We should have known that if anyone would find a way to keep family together while apart, it would be them.
