If you are single and a fan of White Claw, then The Claw may help you kill two birds with one stone.

A hard seltzer brand owned by Mark Anthony Brands, White Claw, was introduced to the market in 2016. By the summer of 2019, White Claw had become America’s best-selling hard seltzer and reportedly accounted for more than half of all sales of hard seltzers.

Helmed by Scottsdale, Arizona-based entrepreneurs, The Claw is arguably America’s first dating app disguised as a drinking app. According to co-founder Chantz Usery, “The type of alcoholic beverage you like to drink says a lot about your lifestyle; do you like to go clubbing, or do you prefer a craft brewery. We’ve created an app that considers this and developed an algorithm to match you with other users based on these lifestyle choices.”

Co-founders Usery and Vash Parvanehgohar said in a prepared statement that they were inspired to create The Claw in October 2019 while out with friends drinking White Claw. Usery explained that, “we began noticing a correlation between a person’s White Claw flavor preference and what it said about their personality.”

Parvanehgohar continued by saying, “In the beginning, we created a fun drinking game out of guessing someone’s flavor preference when we were out with a group. We then realized other friends were playing the same guessing game and immediately recognized an opportunity to create a dating app disguised as a drinking app around your preferred adult beverage.”

To create a profile on The Claw, app users pick their favorite drink flavor, as linked to predetermined key personality traits. Users are then asked three key drinking-related questions:

  • “How often do you drink?”
  • “What’s your drink preference?”
  • “Where do you prefer to go out and have fun?”

Parvanehgohar commented about those questions being part of a “proprietary algorithm” which aims to match you with “like-minded people through a grading scale.” He then delivered a bunch of optimistic seltzer-related puns: “The days of being TRULY disappointed with poor date locations and taking life too seriously are over. The Claw is all about a casual night out and not intended to land you a new mother or ‘father-inCLAW.’” Usery joined in the fun as well: “You can meet potential matches by sending a ‘Cheers’ and possibly find your perfect ‘Clawmate!'”

A bonus feature of the app will be the ability to unlock a variety of coupons for adult beverages based on a point accrual system. The more “Cheers” you engage in, the faster you accrue points. Parvanehgohar politely added: “We don’t want you to drink alone this summer, we encourage everyone to join The Claw, have some drinks and see no flaws.”
