All-black ice cream now available at IHalo Crunch in Toronto

When you think of ice cream, the color black probably doesn’t factor into it unless you’re thinking of some deep dark chocolate flavor. But in recent years that has changed with quite a few ice cream shoppes adding activated charcoal and other ingredients to make black ice cream. It’s fun to try new flavors so who wouldn’t want to try some goth ice cream?

If you’re in Toronto this summer and looking for some dark sweet treats, you’re in luck because iHalo Krunch has all the black soft serve ice cream you could ever want (who doesn’t like soft serve ice cream??) While there have been a few places selling black ice cream in big cities in the US, this is Toronto’s first.

If you’ve never had black ice cream before, you might be wondering what it tastes like. IHalo Krunch’s ice cream is made with activated charcoal for the black color and has a light coconut taste. So don’t worry, it won’t taste like you just bit into a brick of charcoal from your barbecue.

But if you’re skeptical and want to twist your black ice cream with another flavor, you can do that too. You can mix it with their “Ube All the Way” purple ice cream, Meet Your Matcha” green ice cream, or their “Bean There, Done That” white vanilla bean ice cream. You can twist from two to four flavors on one cone. Can you imagine having four flavors at once? Yum!

iHalo Krunch brings it’s black soft serve ice cream back to their menu

While you can’t currently sit inside and enjoy a cone at iHalo Krunch, you can carry out one (or three). If you’ve been craving a soft serve ice cream cone as the weather has gotten hotter, this is the perfect way to get your fix.

One quick note about food with activated charcoal in it: please be careful. Activated charcoal is known to absorb chemicals and toxins in your stomach so your body doesn’t take them in. According to Healthline, this means it’s used a lot for poison control and overdoses as it can absorb a variety of different drugs.

This is where it could be problematic to some people. The activated charcoal could reduce the effectiveness of any medication you’re on. That doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy some goth-y ice cream; you just want to be cautious.
