Food Network’s grilled deviled eggs are just weird
Food Network’s grilled deviled egg recipe must be seen to be believed
Deviled eggs are a staple at a lot of barbecues and picnics, but it’s one of those recipes that’s hard to make your own. There’s only so much you can do with eggs, mayo, paprika, and whatever else you put in it. But Food Network has figured out a way to change up the recipe and recently shared it on Twitter.
How exactly do you really make deviled eggs different? You put them on the grill! Yeah, you read that right. But there’s a couple steps before the grilling part. The recipe starts off in the usual way. Boil your eggs until they are hard in the center and then peel off the shells (once they’re cool) and cut the eggs in half. Remove the yolks and put them in a separate bowl.

Next, brush a little bit of mayo onto the cut side of the whites and then put them in a grill basket. This ensures the eggs don’t fall through the grill grates.
In the video, Food Network uses a charcoal grill but there shouldn’t be any reason you can’t use gas. You’ll probably get a little bit more of a smoky flavor with charcoal, but since you’re not grilling the whites for that long, it shouldn’t matter too much.
These grilled deviled eggs also includes dijon mustard and chipotle adobe sauce
Once you have your grill all set up, place the whites on the grate with the cut side down and let them cook for 30 seconds. Remember: they’re already cooked so this is mainly about adding a little flavor and some grill marks.
Now to the filling!! Smash the cooked egg yolks together with a fork. Then add in mayo, a little dijon mustard, some chipotle adobe sauce, smoked paprika, and kosher salt and black pepper. Mix all the ingredients together until it’s smooth and creamy. Put the yolk mixture into a piping bag or a ziploc bag with the tip cut off and pipe the mix into each shell. You can also just spoon the mixture into the whites. It all depends how pretty you want it to be.
Finally, sprinkle a bit more smoked paprika onto each egg and you’re ready to eat your deviled eggs. I am a bit skeptical of how much smoky flavor you’re going to get with the eggs only on the grill for 30 seconds. I bet the smoked paprika is giving you more flavor than anything.
Also…setting up a charcoal grill for 30 seconds of cooking?? I hope you’re making something else too, otherwise it kind of seems like a waste.
The recipes from Food Network’s app (which is where you can find this recipe) seem to be much weirder than their normal stuff. I don’t know if I can imagine this being on the actual channel which might be why they just threw it on the app.
