Can freezing cereal make it taste better?

Who doesn’t like cereal for breakfast in the morning? Or, let’s be real, who doesn’t like it anytime during the day? What’s better than a bowl of sugary (or healthy, if that’s your thing) cereal? Not much. But people on TikTok have come up with a way to make it even better. They’ve decided that putting your cereal in the freezer before you add the milk makes it taste better.

Compared to other TikTok recipes and hacks, this one is pretty easy to try out. You just have to pour out your cereal into a bowl and then put the bowl into the freezer. One video states that 30 minutes should be enough time, but it’s up to you. Once the cereal is cold enough to your liking, take it out, add your milk, and eat!

This is one TikTok food hack I actually agree with. Not only will the cold cereal make the milk stay colder longer, but the frozen cereal might even stop it from getting soggy so quickly. It could even make your marshmallow cereals really crunchy. Yum!

But does it affect the taste? This is certainly  a possibility. Aren’t there foods you love that always taste better when cold? I know I definitely like eating fruit better when it’s cold rather than when it’s been sitting on the counter for a while.

The chilled bowl also seems to be part of the reason people like this idea too. If you’ve ever put a bowl into the freezer before putting ice cream in it or frozen a glass before putting soda or beer into it, you know how amazing something can taste in a chilled container. It just makes it extra special.

You could keep your cereal in the freezer 24/7, but you’d have to freeze the bowl separately and that’s a lot to do especially early in the morning.

I can imagine this working especially well with Lucky Charms, Frosted Flakes, and Honey Nut Cheerios. Sometimes, cold and sugar just makes the perfect combination.
