Forget the graham crackers and add bacon to your s’mores
Everything’s better with bacon, right? What about adding it to s’mores? It sounds questionable, but Delish recently tried it out in a way you might not expect. They don’t just slide some bacon in with the chocolate and the toasted marshmallow. They replace the graham crackers with bacon! How does it all stay together? Let’s get to the recipe.
To make this bacon-y s’mores concoction, you’ll need twelve half slices of bacon, some brown sugar, marshmallows, and a couple of bars of chocolate. Before you get started putting anything together, preheat your oven to 400 degrees and put a baking rack inside a baking sheet. This is for the bacon and will allow the grease to drip down so the bacon isn’t soaking in it.
Now, it’s time for the bacon! Put three half slices of bacon down on your baking rack side-by-side. Then take a fourth slice and place it underneath the middle slice and on top of the two end slices. If you’ve ever made a lattice for the top of a pie, you’re doing the same thing here.
Next, put the fifth piece of bacon on top of the middle piece and underneath the two end pieces. And finally, take your sixth bacon slice and put it on top of the middle piece and underneath the two end pieces. Now you have a bacon lattice.
Replace graham crackers with bacon to reinvent your s’mores
You’ll want to repeat this three more times to make four bacon lattices. Sprinkle the bacon with brown sugar and place the bacon in the oven for 25-35 minutes until it’s crispy. Once it’s done, place the bacon on paper towels to catch any extra grease.
Marshmallow time! Place the marshmallows on skewers and roast them to your liking. Whether you do this over a bonfire or over the stove (carefully) is up to you. Finally, place the toasted marshmallows and chocolates between the bacon lattices and enjoy!
I don’t know how I feel about this. I love s’mores. What’s not to like? It’s got the crispy graham cracker and the gooey chocolate and marshmallow. Taking out the graham cracker and replacing it with bacon? It doesn’t sound awful but it’s not exactly the same easy to make dessert. And it’s definitely going to be messier. No matter how crispy the bacon is, it’s not going to be as sturdy as a graham cracker.
