The Great British Bake-Off might be back this year
The Great British Bake-Off is one of the best reality shows ever. It’s happy and nice and all about baked goods and British people. What more could you want? When most reality shows are filled with conniving people who “aren’t here to make friends,” The Great British Bake-Off is like a breath of fresh air. But as we haven’t seen a new season since last year, are we going to have to wait even longer due to the pandemic?
Maybe not. According to Deadline, the baking show has been secretly filming for two weeks. They first started filming in April, but, as with the rest of the world, had to cancel production because of the coronavirus. Now they’re back but taking a lot of precautions to make sure everyone is safe.
Everyone on set, including the cast, the crew, and the judges were quarantined before filming and the show has moved from their normal Welford Park to a different location to make quarantining easier.

One of the things that sets GBBO apart from other reality shows is that the contestants go home and practice their recipes. I’m betting that won’t be happening this year and it might end up changing how the contestants deal with stress.
The Great British Bake-Off will have a new host, Matt Lucas
But with production back up and running, will the show be back this year? According to what Jane Millichip, Chief Commercial Officer of Sky Studios, told Deadline, we might “have your victoria sponge this year.” But be warned American fans! It will hit the UK airwaves first so it likely won’t end up on Netflix here until 2021.
This season is even more anticipated because it introduces a new host. Sandy Toksvig left the show earlier this year and will be replaced by actor, Matt Lucas. It’ll be interesting to see how he interacts with Noel Fielding and the judges.
The show has changed hosts before with great success so, hopefully, whenever the show comes back, the same chemistry between the hosts and judges is still there.
