With little to nothing to celebrate due to the COVID-19 outbreak, champagne sales have dropped
First breakfast and now champagne? Is 2020 over soon? Delish is reporting that champagne sales have significantly dropped due to the COVID-19 outbreak leaving us with very little to celebrate. How bad is it? Oh, so bad!
According to the source, champagne sales are down by approximately $2 billion. No, this is, regrettably, not a misprint. That is two BILLION. With a capital B. Yikes! Though I am not surprised, I never truly thought about it.
The champagne industry is in real trouble here. What we used to pop open to celebrate an event (from graduations, weddings, house closings, you name it) is something we no longer need since, well, there’s not much to celebrate in 2020. In fact, the source also shares that about 100 million bottles won’t be sold as previously predicted.
Is there a solution to save champagne?
Unfortunately, while COVID-19 is still around, I don’t see anything changing for the better. Instead, champagne companies need to start investing in wine or canned drinks if they haven’t already!
What’s selling at the moment is wine, and lots of it, as the majority of people are drinking wine while binge-watching a movie or the latest series on Netflix. We’re also drinking a glass or two and remembering “the good old days.”
Another very popular beverage at the moment are canned drinks, such as sparkling tequila and more! Check out our summer drinks round-up HERE to discover your new favorite! Some of our favorite drinks include Angry Orchard’s Rosé and Twisted Tea!
What will you be drinking this summer? Let’s hope the situation improves. I know good days are ahead! Once they’re here, let’s all pop open a bottle of champagne.
