Taco Bell is testing a new white corn shell taco
Last month, Taco Bell announced they would be removing many of their beloved menu items. Now they are adding a new innovation.
Taco Bell has been a fast food Tex-Mex favorite for decades. They recently decided to reinvigorate their menu which involved removing some of the items many people liked the most. This has caused nationwide disappointment and frustration with Taco Bell amid their many loyalists.
Fortunately for the Taco Bell lovers out there, they are not just removing items to streamline their menu, but they removed items so that the menu could evolve with new items and innovation.
According to Delish, Taco Bell has recently unleashed one of their new items and has been testing it in the Detroit market. Taco Bell’s new Cantina Crispy Melt Taco features none other than a freshly fried white corn shell.
The white corn shell offers a difference to a traditional flour tortilla shell or the traditional yellow crispy shell Taco Bell normally offers. The white corn tortilla is a way for Taco Bell to try to continue its mission to continue to elevate their offerings in their “menu evolution”.
Although the Cantina Crispy Melt Taco starts with the white corn shell, there has to be more to it to truly make it crave-worthy. This taco does not disappoint as it has so much more to offer than just its shell.
The shell is first filled with a melted nacho cheese sauce and three cheese blend which is never a disappointment for anyone. Along with the nacho cheese sauce is a choice of either seasoned beef or black beans if you prefer a vegetarian version. These base layers are topped with reduced-fat sour cream, lettuce, shredded cheddar cheese, and tomatoes.
The Cantina Crispy Melt Taco is light on the wallet
So far, the Cantina Crispy Melt Taco is priced at $1.99 for each individual taco. Locations carrying the taco are also offering an option for a $5 box also including a Beef Chalupa Supreme, a regular Crunchy Taco, and a medium drink. As it stands, the box is a great deal for Taco Bell enthusiasts looking for a quick meal while trying something new.
With this new item, Taco Bell is looking to offer customers “an elevated experience of the iconic Crunchy Taco.” Unfortunately for those of us outside of the Detroit area, we will only be able to look at pictures and wish we could try a Cantina Crispy Melt Taco in all of its glory.
The taco is a safe way for Taco Bell to innovate while staying true to its original roots. Hopefully, it does well in its Detroit experiment and Taco Bell soon releases the taco to consumers nationwide.
Until then, we can still look forward to any other new innovations Taco Bell will unleash on us such as the possibility of chicken wings to take place of the items we have recently lost.
