The Great Canadian Baking Show needs to be available everywhere
The other day I discovered my new addiction: The Great Canadian Baking Show. It’s already aired three seasons but, at least in the U.S., it is almost impossible to find. It’s not streaming anywhere. Not on Amazon. Not on Hulu. Not on Netflix. This needs to change.
The show is very similar to the British version. Bakers bake a bunch of amazing creations in a tent, there are three challenges per episode, and there is a Star Baker and someone that goes home at the end of each episode. There are two hosts and two judges and the show has the same fun, non-competitive vibe. All the bakers are really supportive and help each other and make us all feel soft inside.

But, one of the best parts of the show (or at least the first two seasons) is that Dan Levy AKA David from Schitt’s Creek is one of the hosts and yes, it’s as good as you think it is. The other host is Julia Chen and the two judges are French-Canadian chef, Bruno Feldeisen, and Canadian pastry chef, Rochelle Adonis.
One thing I also really like about The Great British Baking Show that carries over to its Canadian counterpart is recipes that are specific to the country the show takes place in. There is a whole Canadian week where the bakers make things that if your not Canadian, you might not have heard of.

One of the signature challenges, the bakers had to make their version of the tourtière, a Canadian meat pie (although a few of the bakers make amazing vegetarian versions). I love learning about new foods and new flavor combinations and this show features a ton of them.
But let’s get back to the problem at hand. Why isn’t this show easier to watch?? If you’re in Canada you can stream in on the CBC website, but if you’re not, it’s way more difficult to find. With how amazing this show is, more people need to see it and appreciate it! Hopefully, one of the big streaming services can get the rights and we can all enjoy watching Dan Levy eat cakes and cookies to his heart’s content.
