Dunkin’ is in discussions to sell and it may create a dream team of restaurants

Dunkin’ has been a mainstay for coffee and donut lovers for what feels like my complete lifetime. In the northeast where I live, you can often find a Dunkin’ location just about every other block.

And now, according to Chewboom, Dunkin’ may have a new owner soon since Arby’s owner. Inspire Brands, is in discussion to purchase the Dunkin’ Brands owned Dunkin’ and Baskin Robbins.

Right now, Dunkin’ is a publicly-traded company, but if the sale were to go through, Inspire Brands would take both brands private. The current value of Dunkin’ is $8.8 billion which is a lot of coffee, donuts, and munchkins. Although the company went through a rough patch in the spring with closures, they have done pretty well compared to other brands when it comes to the pandemic.

Inspire Brands can use Dunkin’ to create some great limited menu options

Inspire Brands also owns Jimmy Johns, Arby’s, Sonic, and Buffalo Wild Wings among other restaurants. Thus far they have run their differently branded restaurants separately without mixing between them. Despite this, it is fun to think of possible brand crossovers such as what Dunkin’ has done with its summer Baskin Robbins’ coffee flavor combinations.

The menu possibilities are great to think about and we could get things such as a donut burger at Sonic. We could also get a chicken tender breakfast sandwich at Dunkin’ that features the signature tenders and possibly also sauces from Buffalo Wild Wings. We could also get a roast beef breakfast sandwich featuring the finest from Arby’s. You could even have Baskin Robbins ice cream featured in shakes and other desert items at Sonic and Buffalo Wild Wings. The possibilities are endless.

With a potential deal imminent, the two sides continue to have discussions. It does not appear that there will be a change to how Dunkin’ and/or Baskin Robbins operate today. In fact, it is the way they operate which may be the most appealing feature for Inspire Brands. In an era where contactless service is becoming more and more popular, Dunkin’ had already begun a transition to this over the last year. Hopefully, if a deal does go through, we can see some fun limited-time offers from all of the brands.
