When it comes to On the Border salsa, the store-bought version just doesn’t taste the same!

It’s no secret that the jars of On the Border salsa you can buy at the store (or order online), just doesn’t taste the same as the one you enjoy at the restaurant. But why does it taste SO different?

Don’t get me wrong, I’m a huge fan of On the Border salsa! In fact, just call me a chips and salsa fanatic. I judge a restaurant by their salsa! If their salsa doesn’t wow me, chances are I won’t be coming back.

There’s a lot of pressure when it comes to chips and salsa. After all, it’s the restaurant’s first impression. We all want something to munch on while we wait on appetizers and entrees!

Needless to say On the Border salsa is one of my favorite salsas. Not the best there is, in my humble opinion, but definitely in my top 5. But why does the store-bought version of the salsa taste so different?

Store-bought On the Border salsa vs in-restaurant

The first time I bought a jar of On the Border salsa was several years back and, to be honest, I never did again. Has the recipe changed? Is the flavor different? I may buy another one soon to try it out once more, but I wasn’t impressed.

Store-bought salsa doesn’t taste as fresh, but that wasn’t the problem. It’s not going to taste fresh because it’s not fresh. But I still expected it to taste similar. Nope, nothing like the original at all. It’s a completely different recipe, who are they kidding?

If this is an On the Border brands salsa, I get it. But it’s not the “restaurant-style,” don’t let that fool you.

Recently, however, Mashed reported that if you are doing all or most of your grocery shopping online, you can now add On the Border salsa, queso, and guacamole, to your cart. Fun and convenient, but I rather search for something with more flavor.

Which store-bought salsa do you recommend? I may give On the Border salsa another shot, but I’m still going to be on the hunt for my go-to store-bought salsa!
