Why did Starbucks cancel Happy Hour?
By Sandy C.
What’s better than a drink from Starbucks? A free drink from Starbucks! But that’s not as easy to get as it used to be.
Is anyone else missing “the good old days” aka pre-COVID-19 days? I sure am! The coronavirus has changed so much, but are they to blame for Happy Hour at Starbucks?
For that not in-the-know, the coffee chain used to offer BOGO drink specials, which is the chance to buy-one-get-one-drink. Can it get any better than that? You can be greedy (it’s okay, we’re Guilty Eats) and enjoy both yourself or stop by with a friend.
If you split the cost, it’s like getting your favorite drink for 50% off. You could take advantage of this offer from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. on certain days, which are great hours, it wasn’t difficult making time for this. The only catch is that this was only offered exclusively to Starbucks Rewards members.
It’s just a great deal overall! Unfortunately, that’s not offered anymore. At least, not as much as it used to.
What happened to Happy Hour at Starbucks?
There was supposed to be a Happy Hour day on Dec. 17 and then another on Jan. 7, but the program has hit a halt, Mashed shares, due to rising COVID-19 numbers.
According to the source, here’s a statement from Starbucks:
"“Given the rise in cases and the current guidance from the scientific community to not gather indoors in large groups for prolonged periods of time, we decided to pause Happy Hours in December and January 7”"
However, the coffee chain is still planning to offer Double Stars Days, which is an offer that allows Rewards members to earn points they can trade in for drink upgrades, food, free drinks, and even merch.
