Butter vs cheddar popcorn: Which flavor reigns supreme?
Is butter or cheddar popcorn better?
It’s the snack fight that’s been going on since the beginning of time…or at least since people began eating butter and cheddar popcorn. Which is better: butter or cheddar? Everyone has their opinion but when it comes down to it, doesn’t cheese always win?
I’m incredibly biased in this fight because cheddar popcorn is my ultimate favorite snack. If there is cheese popcorn in the house, it’s not going to be there long. Butter just doesn’t have the same punch of flavor that cheddar has.
Cheddar popcorn is our favorite
And really, how could cheddar not be the best when it’s up against butter? Sure, buttered popcorn is the classic. It’s delicious, usually salty, and comes with loads of memories.
It’s what you get at the movie theater when you see the latest film. Or at least what we used to get before the pandemic started. At this point, it’s almost nostalgic.
But butter just cannot hold a candle to the cheesy goodness. You don’t get the chance to lick cheese powder off your fingers when you’re eating the buttery stuff. You’re just licking off salt and grease which is nowhere near as fun or appetizing. The messiness of the cheddar dust is what makes it so perfect.
Cheddar popcorn also goes really well when you mix it with other flavors. If you haven’t had cheddar and caramel corn mixed together (Chicago-style), you are missing out on one of the best food combinations ever.
I’m not denying butter popcorn is delicious. It’s butter! Of course, it’s good. But there is nothing better than sitting on the couch, watching your favorite show, and stuffing gobs of cheddar popcorn into your mouth.
Although, if you really can’t decide between cheddar and butter, no one is stopping you from getting both and mixing them together. Butter and cheese can never be wrong.
