The best sandwich in every state
Next up on our list, we will be traveling to the South; one of these sandwiches requires a fork and a knife to eat, which there is absolutely nothing wrong with, while the other sandwich is an Italian classic filled with so much flavor!
If a messy flavorful sandwich is your thing, then stay tuned, folks!
All of that being said, next up, let’s travel down to Kentucky and Louisiana for our next delicious sandwiches.

Sandwich: Hot Brown Sandwich
Where to Enjoy: The Brown Hotel
When I first heard of a Hot Brown, it didn’t even sound like a sandwich to me, and upon looking at the above photos, followed by a good ole Google search, it doesn’t even look like a sandwich; to me, that’s what makes it even more appealing. If a sandwich requires a fork and a knife, then it just had to be good, although those that don’t require silverware are still delicious nonetheless as well.
Now, if you’re unaware of such a sandwich much like me, here’s what’s included in a Hot Brown:
- Roast bird (turkey)
- Thin strips of bacon
- Slices of tomato
- Served on slices of toast
Bonus: the whole thing is flooded with Mornay sauce. What’s Mornay sauce, you may ask? Essentially, Mornay sauce is a white cheese and butter sauce, of much resemblance to a béchamel sauce with shredded or grated Gruyère cheese added, although some variations of this sauce include different delish combos of different delish cheeses too!

Sandwich: Muffuletta
Where to Enjoy: Central Grocery
To me, a Muffuletta is one of the most delicious sandwiches out there; in fact, you just can’t go wrong with eating one! That is, if you like the flavors of Italian olive salads, Italian cured meats, and fresh Italian bread, swiss cheese, all in a fresh focaccia bread bun, of course.
Central Grocery first opened up on Decatur St. in New Orleans, back in 1906, becoming a major favorite to all of the Sicilian immigrants working within the French Market. Cool history; simple enough!
